Fixing line faults with LowerCall and Openreach Engineers
Faults on BT's network (eg outside your home or office) are fixed for free. If it transpires that a fault lies with your own equipment or wiring (eg inside your property), you will be charged a minimum of £140+vat for the engineers visit. This is made up of BT Openreach's standard call out fee of £85+vat PLUS £55+vat per hour or part thereof with a minimum 1 hour charge.
If you encounter a problem with your telephone line, you should email LowerCall and we will perform a line test. If necessary, LowerCall will arrange for a BT Openreach engineer to come and fix the fault. If it is not possible to communicate via email, you should call LowerCall on the emergency fault repair helpline. This 0800 number is given to line rental customers when they sign up.
The key to avoiding a BT Openreach engineers call out charge, is to thoroughly check your equipment and wiring BEFORE contacting LowerCall and requesting an engineers visit. A local electrician can often be a cheaper alternative to a BT Openreach engineers call out charge.
